Below is an entry I have to write for my English homework.

The Journal Topic is : How can I become and continue becoming to be becoming?

In this case, I will treat it as what occupation I would like to be in when I grow up and what I have to do to make this into reality.

Well, I always had many ambitions when I was young, such as becoming a doctor or a teacher. I have a passion for singing. Therefore, there were also moments when I wanted to become a singer or even a singing teacher.

However, as for now, I have three ambitions I am certain of. A doctor specialising in treating aids, a deejay and a tour guide.

I am currently more interested in becoming a tour guide. Therefore, let me just forget about becoming a doctor or a deejay for one moment as I tell you more about how I can become and continue becoming to be becoming a tour guide.

A tour guide must do a lot of research as only the tour guide knows what the next destination should be. She must be able to answer any question the tourists shoot. She must be able to make long bus trips entertaining. She must have a good memory as she needs to memorise every single information about that country and its tourist attractions. She must be brave as she will usually have to stay in a hotel room alone unless, of course, she is in her own country. She must know how to take care of every single person in her tour group, especially the elderly. And, she must be friendly and sociable so as to create a good rapport among the tourists/ bus driver/ people in charge of the destination she is bringing her tour group to. This will definitely make things easier for her.

So, what should I do in order to become a tour guide?

I must have more confidence in myself. Emceeing has boosted my confidence level a little and I believe confidence is something that can be built up over time.

I must be good in my languages as I have to communicate with many people. Therefore, I must try my best to improve them and always make an effort to speak proper English and Chinese.

I took up japanese lessons last year for a while, during the december holidays. Although I have forgotten quite a lot of what I have learnt, I will try my best to refresh my memory after my O levels and continue to take up more japanese lessons. It will be much easier for me to communicate with the Japanese if I know their language.

I realise that tour guides can sing quite well. They often sang to us whenever we felt extremely bored, especially on long bus trips lasting for hours. Well, I love to sing. Perhaps this might help?

I have visited a few countries with my family such as Japan, China and Korea. It will definitely be of a a little help if I have a chance to visit many countries. But expensive, though, given the economic crisis.

I love exploring around places in Singapore. I should spend some time visiting more unique and interesting places whenever I have the time in order to broaden my knowledge about Singapore.

Well then, how can I continue becoming to be becoming? As a student, I should study really hard and get involved in many activities. All these will come in handy next time, for sure. I must also make an effort to speak good english and chinese and should not speak singlish just because I'm lazy. I must also train myself to be braver. And, how exactly shall I continue to do all these? Just never give up and never succumb to laziness.
